This is the talk given by Adam Para at the SLAC Colloquium on March 28, 2006; the abstract for the talk is:

Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber has a long and convoluted history. The latest episode involves construction and successful operation of 300 ton module by the ICARUS collaboration. We will examine the technical challenges of construction of very large scale detectors, in tens of kilotons range and we will argue that such detectors are relatively simple to construct.

Liquid argon TPC constitutes a nearly ideal detector for electron neutrinos and we will examine its physics potential in the existing NuMI neutrino beam.
