Abstract:
At the same time as, and even a little earlier than in Europe, H. Chen at UC Irvine and colleagues were developing the liquid argon technology in the U.S. This document contains historically interesting items. A proposal for an experiment using liquid argon at Fermilab, reports on drifting electrons over long distance, and a description of purifying argon in the liquid state. Chen also invented SNO. He died young before SNO operated.
